Privacy policy

NZ Tuning Limited, trading as NZ Performance Tuning, takes your privacy seriously. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and how you control it.

It covers this website, online orders, and workshop bookings and services. It is written to meet the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020, and includes sections for customers covered by the European GDPR and the California CCPA.

What we collect

  • Your name
  • Contact details: phone number, email address, delivery address and postal address
  • Vehicle details: registration, make, model, year, VIN, engine specification, and dyno or diagnostic data where we carry out workshop work
  • Order and billing information, including invoice and purchase history. Full card numbers are handled by our payment provider and are never stored on our systems
  • Your interactions with us: enquiries, bookings, service records, and communication history
  • Technical and browsing data: IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed, referring website, and time spent on the site

How we collect it

Directly from you when you place an order, submit our enquiry form, call us, or book workshop work.

Automatically through cookies and analytics tags when you browse this website.

Providing some information is optional. If you do not give us your vehicle details and contact information, we will not be able to quote or carry out specific services.

Why we collect it

  • To carry out the tuning, diagnostic or workshop work you have asked for
  • To process orders, take payment, and arrange delivery or collection
  • To confirm part fitment for your vehicle before an order ships
  • To maintain service and warranty records for your vehicle
  • To respond to enquiries and provide support
  • To meet our tax and legal record keeping obligations
  • To measure how this website performs, and to show relevant advertising where you have consented

Cookies and tracking

We use cookies to keep your cart working, remember your preferences, measure traffic, and support advertising.

The tools currently in use on this website are:

  • Google Analytics 4, for website traffic and behaviour measurement
  • Shopify analytics, built into the platform that runs this store
  • Google reCAPTCHA, to protect our forms from spam and automated abuse
  • Google advertising cookies, where you have consented, to measure the performance of our advertising

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking essential cookies will stop the cart and checkout from working.

Advertising and personalisation

We advertise on Google. Data collected through advertising cookies may be used to show you our products on other websites and to measure whether our advertising is working.

We do not sell your personal information.

You can opt out of personalised Google advertising at myadcenter.google.com, and out of interest based advertising more generally at youronlinechoices.com.

Who we share it with

We share your information only with the providers we need to run the business. Each is listed below with the reason.

  • Our staff, for day to day operations, workshop bookings and servicing
  • Shopify, which hosts this store and processes orders
  • Shopify Payments, to process card and wallet payments securely
  • Xero, to generate and manage invoices
  • Our courier partners, to deliver your order. Depending on the service selected at checkout, this may be NZ Post, NZ Couriers, Aramex or Post Haste
  • Zappy Shippings, the app that calculates live shipping rates for your delivery address at checkout
  • HulkApps Form Builder, which powers our website enquiry form
  • Google, for analytics, advertising measurement and spam protection

These providers may only use your information for the purpose we engaged them for. We do not sell or rent personal information to anyone.

We may also disclose information where we are required to by New Zealand law, or to protect our legal rights.

How long we keep it

  • Order, invoice and tax records are kept for 7 years, as required by New Zealand tax law
  • Vehicle service and tuning records are kept for 7 years, so we can support warranty claims and follow up work
  • Enquiry and quote records are kept for 24 months
  • Website analytics data is retained for 14 months

After these periods, information is deleted or anonymised.

How we protect it

This website runs on HTTPS throughout. Payments are processed by a PCI compliant provider, and full card numbers never reach our systems. Access to customer records is limited to staff who need it to do their job.

No system is completely secure and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If a privacy breach occurs that is likely to cause you serious harm, we will notify you and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner, as required by the Privacy Act 2020.

Your rights under the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020

You have the right to ask for a copy of any personal information we hold about you, and to ask us to correct it if you think it is wrong. We will respond within 20 working days.

You can also:

  • Ask us to delete your information, where we are not legally required to keep it
  • Unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time using the link in any email we send
  • Object to your information being used for advertising

Where we are legally required to keep certain records, we will tell you which ones and why.

If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your request, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.

If you are in the European Union or the United Kingdom (GDPR)

Where the General Data Protection Regulation applies to you, you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict and port your data, and to object to processing.

Our lawful bases for processing are:

  • Performance of a contract, for orders, bookings and services
  • Legitimate interests, for website security and analytics
  • Consent, for marketing and advertising cookies
  • Legal obligation, for tax and financial records

You can withdraw consent at any time, and you have the right to complain to your local supervisory authority.

If you are a California resident (CCPA and CPRA)

Where the California Consumer Privacy Act applies to you, you have the right to know what personal information we collect and why, to request deletion, to correct inaccurate information, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information.

We do not sell personal information. Exercising these rights will not affect the price you pay or the service you receive. Contact us using the details below to make a request.

Children

This website and our services are intended for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has given us their information, contact us and we will delete it.

Third party links

This website may link to other websites, including manufacturer and social media pages. We are not responsible for their privacy practices and we encourage you to read their policies separately.

Changes to this policy

We update this policy as our practices change. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last revised. Where a change is material, we will let customers with an account know by email.
